This piece comes from a photo I took during a shoot with my High School Photo class. My students and I were excited to find a moth on a Black Eyed Susan bloom. So many of us gathered around the poor thing that it got scared and flew away.
If you are not familiar with the work of the artist Paul Klee, you should look him up. I’m very interested in his abstract squares paintings. When I started planning how I would approach the artwork, I did not have Klee’s work in mind. As it unfolded and I experimented with different ways to combine the flowers with a more abstract background, it evolved into something that would fit over my mother’s avocado green 1970’s mission style furniture sofa. After the background was mostly finished and I stepped back to see what the composition needed, it hit me that the squares are reminiscent of some of the work Klee did.
The squares are a combination of layering Derwent watercolor colored pencils, Prismacolor colored pencils and watercolor to get some of the interesting textures and colors.

Welcome to my Portfolio

I've been drawing and painting since I was little and mom enrolled my sister and I at the local YMCA for art lessons. I love to experiment with different ways to express myself, generally in watercolors and or crosshatching drawings in color.
One of the things I like best about creating art is that it makes me feel that sense of wonder we all had as kids. Starting off with a blank surface and changing it into something unique and expressive keeps me coming back time and time again.
Some of the work on this site has been framed, but most of it is unframed. If you would like to purchase a piece, I'm happy to ship it to you. Some of the framed pieces may ship better unframed due to their size and the cost that would be associated with it. I'm not interested in working with NFTs at this time, please don't ask
Even if you are not ready to purchase a piece, I'd love to hear from you. Please consider sending me an email at cengnothart@gmail.com
